Ms. DeFreitas received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in May 2002. She was licensed to practice law in October 2002. Prior to law school, Ms. DeFreitas was a legal assistant for a prominent family law firm in Colorado Springs, Colorado and for the civil litigation department of a mid-sized law firm in Aurora, Colorado.

Since graduating from law school, Ms. DeFreitas has continued to specialize in the area of family law in her own practice. She has litigated cases involving such issues as interstate jurisdiction in child custody disputes, relocation/removal cases, grandparents’ rights, domestic violence and protection orders, child support, maintenance, and adoption.

Ms. DeFreitas interned at both the National Association for Council for Children and Project Safeguard while attending law school. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science in 1999 from Metropolitan State College of Denver, while juggling the art of being a single parent and managing a career.

Ms. DeFreitas is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Denver Bar Association, and the Family Law Section of the Colorado Bar.
